START WITH ART: The Four Trees
Good morning! We begin each day by examining a piece of art from history. Today’s artwork is pictured below. Take a look, then read the questions to the students/children in your life and watch how starting the day with art can ignite creativity and critical thinking!
Title: The Four Trees
Artist: Claude Monet
Date: 1891
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 81.9 x 81.6 cm
Start with Art Questions:
-
Look at the way Monet used soft colors and brushstrokes to paint the trees and sky. How do you think these techniques help create a peaceful feeling in the scene?
- Notice how the trees are reflected in the water. How do you think Monet painted the reflection to make it look like the trees are standing tall both above and below the water?
- Imagine sitting in the boat with Monet as he paints. How do you think the changing light and colors of the sky would look if you watched this scene at different times of day?
