Start with Art Questions:
- The artist, Viktor Schreckengost, was given the task of expressing the "jazzy pulse" of New York City in clay. What elements or design decisions contribute to a "jazzy pulse"?
- The bowl's design was created by scratching through a thin covering of black clay (called slip) to reveal the white ceramic underneath. Then, a blue glaze was added. Look closely: do you see elements of "scratching"?
- If you were creating an artwork to depict the jazzy pulse of a city, what colors or designs would you use?
